Depression
What about depression?
Depression is more than feeling sad. It’s like your whole system has gone into low-power mode after too much strain, loss, disappointment, or stress for too long. Instead of an alarm blaring (like anxiety), it can feel like the lights have dimmed and everything takes effort.
It may show up as:
- tiredness that sleep doesn’t fix,
- loss of interest in things you normally enjoy,
- feeling flat or numb,
- irritability,
- withdrawing from people,
- struggling to concentrate,
- or feeling guilty, hopeless, or like you’re “failing”.
Your body can slow down too:
- heavy limbs,
- changes in appetite,
- aches,
- poor sleep,
- or sleeping far more than usual.
Some people don’t feel tearful – they just feel empty, detached, or like they’re going through the motions.
Depression isn’t laziness or weakness. It’s a signal that something important is overloaded or missing – support, rest, meaning, connection, or hope. And it’s treatable: small steps, the right support, and sometimes medical help, can gradually bring the system back online.
I now feel like 8 out of 10...
"I measure how I feel each day on a scale between 0-10. Now I'm somewhere about an 8, maybe 8½... But 8 weeks ago I was somewhere between 1-2."
